Scan a yarn label. Stash auto-fills.

YarnStash is the OCR-powered stash + WIP tracker for knitters and crocheters. Point your phone at a yarn label and brand, weight, and yardage are parsed in about a second. Track WIPs with a photo timeline and finish a project to auto-deduct the yardage you actually used.

こんなお悩みありませんか?

  • Ravelry is a social and pattern hub — stash entry is fully manual and the UI feels stuck in 2008
  • Knitcompanion is a pattern reader, not a stash or WIP tool — there's no inventory to track
  • Typing brand, weight, yardage, and dye lot for every skein doesn't last a week — most knitters drift back to spreadsheets
  • When a project is done, nobody actually goes back and subtracts the yards they used, so the stash drifts further from reality every month
  • WIP progress photos end up scattered across the camera roll and Instagram, with no link to the yarn that's being eaten

OCR-scan the label, track the WIP, auto-deduct the yardage

YarnStash is a self-serve mobile app you install on your phone. Snap a yarn label and OCR pulls brand, weight, yardage, and colorway into your stash. Link skeins to a WIP, drop progress photos onto its timeline, and when you mark the project finished YarnStash subtracts what you actually used from each linked skein — the AI does the data entry, you make the craft decisions.

  1. 1

    1. Install the app

Download from the App Store or Google Play once we go live (join the waitlist for early access).

  2. 2

    2. Scan a label

Point your phone at any yarn label — about a second per skein.

  3. 3

    3. Auto-filled stash entry

Brand, weight (DK / worsted / fingering), yardage, grams, and colorway land in a draft you confirm with one tap.

  4. 4

    4. Start a WIP

Create a knit, crochet, weaving, or other fiber-craft project, link the skeins you're using, and drop progress photos on its timeline as you go.

  5. 5

    5. Finish — yardage auto-deducts

Mark the WIP done and YarnStash subtracts the yards used from each linked skein. Override anytime if you frogged or substituted yarn.

よくある質問

Q. How accurate is the label OCR?
Beta target is 80%+ on major brand labels. Unrecognized labels prompt a one-tap fill so nothing gets stuck. Per-brand accuracy will be published once our beta benchmark across Malabrigo, Knit Picks, Cascade, Drops, Berroco, Lion Brand, Rowan, and Madelinetosh is complete.
Q. Does it work for crochet too?
Yes. WIPs can be flagged as knit, crochet, weaving, or other fiber-craft. Yardage tracking and auto-deduct work the same way.
Q. Which platforms are supported?
iOS and Android via React Native. We're launching in beta on mobile first; a web companion may follow once core mobile flows are stable.
Q. How does auto-deduct work when I finish a project?
When you mark a WIP done, YarnStash subtracts the yards you used from each linked skein and snaps a final photo onto the project timeline. You can override the deduction if you frogged, substituted yarn, or had leftovers.
Q. Can I import my existing Ravelry stash?
Ravelry CSV import is planned for Phase 2 and is not part of the launch build. We'll announce timing on the waitlist once stash and WIP flows are validated and we've confirmed compatibility with the latest Ravelry export format.
Q. What if my yarn lives across multiple bins or rooms?
Tag each skein with a storage location (bin, shelf, basket, room) and filter by location. Pro plans support unlimited locations.
Q. Is my stash data private?
Yes. Photos and stash entries are tied to your account only — no public feed, no social graph, no ad personalization. You can opt to share an individual entry or WIP if you want to post it elsewhere.
Q. Can I track yarn weight in grams or ounces, and yardage in meters or yards?
Both. Display preference is per-user and conversions are automatic.
Q. Which OCR languages are supported?
English, Japanese, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Norwegian, and Danish — covering the labels used by most major yarn brands sold in English-speaking markets.
